Hall and Playing Fields opening update

I thought it might be timely for me to give you an update on what is happening with the Hintlesham and Chattisham Playing Fields and the Hall as the Government eases the regulations.
As you would expect, we have been following the Government Guidelines with the result that the Hall as been closed following the lock-down, and likewise the children’s play areas.
From early this month, the play areas on the two playing fields have been opened with the appropriate signage concerning social distancing and hygiene measures.  For guidance, we have followed the procedures adopted by Babergh and recommended in Government documents.  The Hall play area has been kept closed, pending it being dismantled.
We hope that the Hall will be able to open by the end of July. All users of the hall will need to undertake risk assessments which will  then have to dovetail into our arrangements.
With regard to the Bar, the Social Club Committee will be keeping Club Members advised.

A lot of work has gone into getting us into a position to be able to re-open the hall. This has involved producing risk assessments for the play areas and the Hall and then following that up with an implementation of the resultant procedures. For example, the provision of cleaning materials and hand gel at the right points, posters, one way systems, marking tape, and floor marking.
However, we have to be aware that it will be sometime before anything approaching the ‘old normal’ returns.  For example, the Hall capacity is currently limited to 30 people, and the meeting room to 12; this is to meet social distancing requirements.
Above all our overriding priority is to safeguard everyone using the hall, and we earnestly follow all Government Guidelines.

If you want more detail about the guidance we followed, we have used Acre’s Guidance for Village Halls.  (This is the national organisation which is linked to Community Action Suffolk).  Acre has been working with the Government to support village activities.

We have a new Oven

When we recently ran a safety assessment on our existing cooker it highlighted some issues. Due to the sterling efforts of Caroline, Linda and Les a new replacement was speedily identified, and today it has been installed – so now all the December functions can go-ahead with a fully functioning oven. Many thanks to everyone that was involved in sorting this so quickly.

Bulb planting in association with Hintlesham School

A close up of daffodils in bloom

We are excited that children from the school will be helping to plant some more bulbs in the newly seeded grass around the Community Hall, and in the tubs.  These should look lovely underneath the trees and shrubs that are getting established; and we look forward to seeing pretty narcissi, tulips and grape hyacinths to cheer us up next spring!

Volunteers will be lending a hand during the afternoon of Friday 29th November with spades and trowels, so give us a wave as you go by, or come and help out if you would like to!

Thank you to everyone for helping to co-ordinate this – and especially to Hintlesham School for being able to help with all the hard work!
